CAPS is the leading designation in the aging in place and universal design home modification. It is offered by NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) and taught by licensed instructors. The three day course covers understanding the aging in place market, market segmentation and selling to this market, understanding design concepts for modifying a home and construction best practices.
2. Is it right for me?
Truly, it is valuable if you are a remodeler and you are looking toward future developments with changing remodeling demands. If you are a design professional and you want to incorporate additional concepts to planning for client’s homes. If you are a health care professional, such as an occupational therapist, your training in home safety and modification can be broadened with new concepts and understanding construction basics. If you are a professional working with seniors as clients, this course expands the view of options for aging in place. 3. Does CAPS qualify as continuing education units?
Yes, CAPS is recognized by AIA, AOTA, NKBA, ASID for continuing education units for your professional designation. Each day of the course is 6 contact hours.
4. Do I have to take all three in the same week?
No, you can take the courses all in one week or take each class when it is convenient for your schedule. On the registration page, you can select the dates. You have to take all three to apply for the actual CAPS designation.
5. Where are the classes offered?

Continuing Education Units for CAPS (12 contact hours in three years)
The Senior Home Safety Specialist (SHSS) certification course offered by Age Safe America is an online course that qualifies for 5 contact hours as CEUs for CAPS. This course can be completed within 60 days so you can take the modules at your convenience.
